What the SEVIS fee is
The SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) I-901 fee supports the U.S. system that tracks F and M students and J exchange visitors. It must be paid before your visa interview and is separate from the visa application fee. Always confirm the current fee amount and process on the official ICE SEVP page (ice.gov/sevis).
Step 1 — Receive your I-20 or DS-2019
After your U.S. school issues your Form I-20 (F/M students) or DS-2019 (J exchange visitors), check that your name, date of birth and SEVIS ID are correct. The SEVIS ID is printed on the form and is what you'll use to pay.
Step 2 — Pay the I-901 fee online
Pay on the official FMJfee.com portal using your SEVIS ID and form details. Save the confirmation receipt — you'll need it for your visa interview and at the port of entry.
Step 3 — Schedule your visa interview
With the fee paid and receipt in hand, schedule your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy, typically in Accra. Prepare your admission letter, financial evidence and supporting documents.
Step 4 — Book your flight and arrival stay
