From yellow fever certificates to the right adapter and cedi-friendly planning — everything to sort before you fly to Ghana.
Get your documents in order
U.S. citizens need a passport valid for at least six months beyond entry and a visa for Ghana. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry — keep the original with your passport. Travelers from other nationalities should confirm requirements for their passport before booking.
Health & vaccinations
Alongside yellow fever, discuss malaria prevention, routine vaccines and travel insurance with your doctor well before departure. Carry prescriptions in their original packaging and a small first-aid kit for day trips.
Money & connectivity
The Ghanaian cedi is the local currency; cards work in cities and major hotels, but carry cash for markets and smaller towns. Notify your bank of travel dates, and consider an eSIM or local SIM for data. Power outlets are Type G (230V) — bring a UK-style adapter.
What to pack
Light, breathable clothing for the warm climate, modest options for visits to churches, mosques and chiefs' palaces, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. A light layer helps with air-conditioning on transport.
